    PROS

The Netatmo has many extras such as air quality and sound meter sensors.  It’s also very simple to setup on your smart devices and to install physically.

    CONS

Unfortunately, if you’re looking specifically for a weather station for outdoor weather data, this model will require you to purchase some extras such as a wind and rain guage.

    SUMMARY

This urban weather station is perfect for the right buyer.  This is someone that values the extra sensors or doesn’t care about detailed outdoor weather data.  It might also be someone that lives in a densely populated area that has very little outdoor area to mount a traditional weather sensor.  If you’re intersted in learning more, read the entire Netatmo weather station review.

This Netatmo weather station review will seem different than others on this site.  That’s mainly because the Netatmo smartphone weather station is very unique compared to most other household models.  They call it their “Urban Weather Station.”  It has an elegant, sleek design and includes indoor sensors that most others don’t.  It’s a perfect fit for those who live in a dense urban environment and don’t have room outside for a typical all-in-one set of weather instruments.

Netatmo says that we spend 80% of our time indoors.  Yet, indoor air is often more polluted than outdoor air.  Their philosophy is that we should be more concerned about getting vital information to help improve your life quality at home.  This information includes things like CO2 measurements and even noise pollution.

The Netatmo urban weather station is extremely “connected” with a free weather station app, compatible with both IOS (iPhone) and Android.  It also has a wide range of accessories to build out the outdoor console with additional weather instruments.  If you’re only concerned with ease of setup, this is the best weather station for you.  There isn’t much to setup and it connects with so many things.  Not to mention, it’s one of the most accurate wireless home weather stations for indoor temperature and air quality.  These of course are its primary focus.  On the other hand, its optional outdoor modules and other measurements get much less accurate readings due to its design.

    Connectivity

    Netatmo Weather Station for Smartphone

This smart weather station is wireless and can transmit up to 100 meters between modules.  You can receive alerts on your smartphone for things like notifications of rain that fell overnight (rain gauge sold separately).  In addition to an IOS and Android app, it can also connect to Alexa, Weather Underground, and Accuweather.

The Netatmo weather station is now compatible with Amazon Alexa.  Just say “Alexa, ask Netatmo what’s the temperature outside” to get that reading.  You can also find out if you need to water your garden by saying “Alexa, ask Netatmo how much it has been raining today.”

    Display Console

You guessed it!  There is no traditional display console on this smart home weather station.  In fact, you’ll likely be using your smartphone* or tablet* as the main display.

    Weather Instruments

The basic Netatmo smart weather station lacks in this category.  Unfortunately, where it excels by including air quality measurements, some of the basic sensors on most home weather stations are missing on this model.  Note, you can add many of them, but they come at an addition cost.

Standard sensors on the urban weather station include:

    Netatmo Weather Insruments

The temperature, humidity, and air quality are for both indoors and outdoors, but the CO2 and sound meter are just on the indoor unit.

Many of the other home weather station reviews on this site are of units that include wind (speed & direction) and rainfall measurements.  You can get add on modules for the Netatmo that offer these, as well as additional indoor modules.  These modules are sold separately.  Click the items below to see pricing.

All things considered, there are many helpful sensors on this PWS, however they’re different than other models reviewed on this site.

    Power Source for Weather Instruments

The indoor module includes an AC adapter, whereas the outdoor unit uses AAA batteries.

    Accuracy

What the Netatmo station lacks in instruments, it makes up in accuracy claiming some of the most accurate measurements on our list of weather station reviews:

    • Temperature: ± 0.5° F
    • Humidity: ± 3%
    • Barometric Pressure: ±0.03 inHG
    • CO2 concentration: 50 ppm

    Other Notables

The app allows you to view your data in a graph form for real-time tracking of your environment.  Since you can analyze past readings, you can observe cycles and trends happening around you.  This also allows the unit to estimate a 7-day weather forecast.

The outdoor module is made of a solid one-piece aluminum body, so it’s rugged and completely weatherproof.  It’s also very small and all-inclusive so there aren’t several parts to assemble

    Affordability

Value is always subjective, but it’s especially true in this case.  Most weather enthusiasts would say this unit is too expensive for the standard weather instruments that it includes.  The additional modules aren’t a drop in the bucket either, but they are available if you want them.  On the other hand, if you’re more concerned with the air quality and just want basic weather data, this urban weather station fits the bill.  It’s also not overly expensive if you compare it to basic air quality monitors available.  It’s similar in pricing, and it includes many of the other basic features of a home weather station.

    What Are Actual Customers Saying?

Feedback from actual customers of the Netatmo Weather Station are mixed to say the least.  Many have said that it’s a very cool weather station and that it’s easy to use, but it’s not uncommon to hear that they think it’s expensive for what you get.  We have received lots of feedback stating that customers have seen short battery life and poor accuracy of the outdoor module.  It appears that setting up the outdoor unit in a good position is key; and it seems to be picky.  In our experience, customers who figure this out seem to be happy with their purchase of the Netatmo.

    Air quality and sound measurements

Elegant, yet rugged design in a small form factor

Easy setup and simple smartphone interfacing

Very accurate according to Netatmo claims (actual results seem mixed)

    CONS

Base module lacks some standard weather instruments – rain collector, weather vane, and anemometer are costly to add

Relatively high cost for what comes standard

Short battery life on outdoor module

    Netatmo Weather Station Review:  Summary

When it comes to weather instruments, you’ll just have to decide if Netatmo’s air quality measurements are important to you or not.  If so, this is probably the best weather station for your needs.  Note, even though the rain gauge and wind gauge are not included with the standard unit, it is expandable to include them.  There is no display console with this home weather station, but it’s hardly needed since it’s so easy to connect via the smart phone app.  There have been some complaints on the outdoor battery life and its price point.  The value depends on your needs, but it’s definitely a very cool weather station compared to other designs!
