SUMMARY

AcuRite’s Atlas weather station has vastly improved accuracy, update frequency, and provided more features and benefits than their previous models.  It’s a great weather station for both home-based users as well as semi-professional weather watchers.

Welcome to our AcuRite Atlas review.  The wait is over! The Atlas weather station is finally here, and it provides real-time monitoring of precise, hyper-local weather conditions. Consequently, it’s a perfect fit for your home, farm, or any commercial application.  For this reason and others, it’s our favorite AcuRite weather station to date.  When paired with an HD display, remote monitoring, and lightning detection, the Altas (known as AcuRite 01007M weather station in this configuration), is well-connected, accurate, and really cool!  Continue reading to find out what makes it one of the most popular models since its release.

Connectivity

The Atlas by AcuRite is a wireless weather station, transmitting data up to 330 feet, depending on construction materials.  The readings are transmitted over a 433 MHz wireless radio frequency.

In addition to being wireless from the weather sensor to the High Definition display, AcuRite’s “Access” module allows for remote monitoring by connecting the Altas weather station to the cloud!  This allows you to view your weather data on the My AcuRite App on your mobile phone or PC and even set up notifications for changing weather conditions.  These are features that cost extra on some of the higher-end weather stations on the market.

AcuRite Access

It also allows you to wirelessly connect your weather data to the ever-popular Weather Underground site to share with others if you choose to.  The Access even supports Rapid Fire to Weather Underground, updating the wind speed at 10 second intervals and other data updating at 18 second intervals.  The light intensity data does not load to Wunderground for some reason, but this is a minor issue in our opinion.

AcuRite Atlas Display

AcuRite Atlas Display

The Acurite 01007M Atlas weather station comes complete with their new high-definition display.  Accordingly, it uses a very nice, vivid TFT color touchscreen. There are auto-dim and sleep mode features. Furthermore, it can be set on a tabletop or wall-mounted with the included wall-mount bracket.  This display also features an SD card slot for long-term weather data storage.  No SD card is included.  We recommend this card.

Some visual features include a scrolling ticker in the upper right hand corner that provides a quick view of the heat index, feels like temperature, and wind chill.  You can also quickly see today and yesterday’s high and low records, program weather alerts, and track trends through graphing measurements.  Here is a link to the AcuRite Atlas display manual.

Weather Instruments

Unlike most of AcuRite’s weather stations that use their 5-in-1 or PRO+ 5-in-1 sensors, the Atlas has its own sensor, aptly named the “Atlas Weather Sensor” (link to the AcuRite Atlas manual).  It is the most accurate and durable weather sensor available from AcuRite and is modular for expandability.  There are 3 solar panels on the sensor that power an internal aspirating fan, greatly increasing the accuracy of the temperature and humidity readings.

AcuRite Atlas Weather Sensor

Here are the instruments included:

·         Indoor/Outdoor thermometer for temperature

·         Indoor/Outdoor hygrometer for humidity

·         Barometer for indoor barometric pressure

·         Wind vane and anemometer for wind speed and direction

·         Self-emptying rain collector to measure rainfall

·         Lightning Sensor (optional, but standard on model# 01007M)

·         UV Sensor

·         Light Intensity Sensor

Note:  The indoor thermometer and hygrometer, as well as the barometer are built into the display, note the weather sensor.

Power Source for Weather Instruments

The AcuRite Atlas weather sensor runs completely off battery power.  As mentioned above, the solar panels on the sensor are for the aspirating fan and do not power the weather instruments themselves.  Because of this, WXobservation recommends the Altas remote battery pack.  Note this is a different model than the 5-in-1 remote battery pack.  AcuRite also makes an optional AC power adapter for the Atlas weather sensor.

Atlas Accuracy

The Atlas weather station has improved on the accuracy over previous AcuRite models.  Here are the stats on the Atlas.

·         Temperature:  ± 1° F

·         Humidity:  ± 2%RH

·         Rain:  ± 5%

·         Wind Direction:  ± 3°

·         Wind Speed:  ± 1 mph @ 10mph or less, ± 10 mph if over 10 mph

·         UV Index:  ± 1 on scale of 0 to 15 index

Other Notables on the Atlas Weather Station

Where other AcuRite weather stations have struggled to compete on accuracy, update frequency, and the number of weather sensors included, the Atlas takes them all to the next level!  Accuracy has improved, it updates almost twice as fast, and several new sensors have been included such as UV and light intensity sensors.  The Acurite 01007M Atlas weather station also includes a new lightning detector option as well.  Note, updates to the My AcuRite app are still slower, close to 5+ minutes, but by supporting Rapid Fire to Weather Underground, weather data updates very quickly there.

AcuRite Atlas Mounting

There is a small mounting bracket included, but it’s very basic.  It can also be mounted on a pole up to 1.25″ in diameter.  We recommend looking at the following options, but there is a more extensive list towards the bottom of this page.

Affordability

In this AcuRite Atlas review, we’ve discussed all the reasons its gained popularity very quickly.  Let’s face it, AcuRite has obviously been working on this model for quite some time to get us all the features we’ve been asking for.

With a total of 11 different instruments/measurements coming from this model of the Atlas, it really packs a punch!   It’s not the lowest cost weather station available, and certainly priced higher than most other AcuRite stations, but for good reason.  This model is on a different level than those stations.

At its price point, the AcuRite Atlas is priced competitively to other weather stations offering similar features and benefits.  It also appears to be built robustly and should last longer in the elements than some of the lower-end weather stations on the market.

What Are Customers Saying About the AcuRite Atlas?

The new AcuRite Atlas weather station has been getting great reviews by customers that have tried it.  We’ve received feedback and comments around how easy it is to setup, including on Weather Underground.  Customers have also noted how they like the newly added UV and lightning detection sensors.   Others mentioned it was well made and has awesome features, as well as some positive comments on the new HD touch display.
