    PROS

The AcuRite 01036 model weather station is very inexpensive when compared to others.  It also has “wired” PC and internet connectivity.

    CONS

Downsides include the fact that the sensor array is battery operated rather than solar-powered.  It also uses AcuRite’s basic 5-in-1 sensor, not the Pro+ model that you’ll find in the 01057RM weather station.

    SUMMARY

All in all, this 01036 weather station is a good, solid unit that’s been around for many years.  There are few that say it’s the best, but also few that don’t like it.  You sure can’t beat the price!

Thank you for taking a look at our AcuRite 01036 review.  This AcuRite weather station is a low-cost, basic, entry model for those not needing any extra features or hardware. Like some other AcuRite weather stations, the AcuRite 01036 model uses their popular 5-in-1 sensor that is so easy to install and has been proven in their lineup for many years now.  As you’ll see shortly, it also has the ability to connect to the web!

    Connectivity

AcuRite’s 01036 is a wireless weather station, transimitting weather data up to 330ft from the sensor to the display module.

    AcuRite PC Connect

The AcuRite 01036 model also includes PC Connect. AcuRite PC Connect is allows the users to connect the weather station to your computer via the included USB cable (this part is NOT wireless).  From there, weather data can be routed to the internet, where it can be logged, measured, and recorded.  By connecting to My AcuRite or Weather Underground, you’ll be able to view the data remotely from any smartphone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection.  My AcuRite can be accessed trhough a computer with any web browser or via the free smartphone application, where you’ll see your individual virtual weather center.

    Display Console

    acurite 01036 model

The LCD screen on the AcuRite 01036 model can be wall or tabletop mounted. It includes custom alerts that you can set as well as dew point, heat index, and wind chill, along with all the standard measurements offered below.  In addition to the measurements and preset alerts, it also has the popular Weather Ticker offered on many of the AcuRite weather stations.  The Weather Ticker provides real-time info scrolling across the bottom of the screen, similar to a stock ticker.

    Weather Instruments

As mentioned at the outset of this AcuRite 01036 review, this model uses AcuRite’s popular “standard” 5-in-1 sensor.  It contains all five weather instruments in a single package, including:

    • Indoor/Outdoor thermometer for temperature
    • Indoor/Outdoor hygrometer for humidity
    • Barometer for indoor barometric pressure
    • Wind vane and anemometer for wind speed and direction
    • Self-emptying rain collector to measure rainfall

In addition, there is an aspirating fan for more accurate temperature readings that is powered by a single solar panel.

    Power Source for Weather Instruments

The 5-in-1 sensor array discussed above is battery operated.  Many think that it’s solar-powered, however the solar panel is just used for the aspirating fan, not the operation of the rest of the senors.

The downside to battery power of course, is that batteries will eventually need to be replaced.  And, since much of the time weather stations are mounted off the ground or in a location that is hard to reach, this can be a pain.  Luckily, AcuRite makes a remote battery pack.  This is something I recommend purchasing with any AcuRite weather station.  It plugs into the sensor array and then has a wire that allows for the new battery pack to be located remotely, up to 30ft away.  See our review on the 06052M remote battery pack for more details.

    Accuracy

Accuracy of the 01036 weather station instruments are as follows:

    • Temperature: ± 2° F
    • Humidity: ± 3-5%
    • Rain: ± 0.05” per inch
    • Wind Direction Indicators: 16 points
    • Wind Speed: 2-5 mph

    Update Frequency

Like other AcuRite weather stations, the 01036 weather station report at 18 second intervals for wind speed and 36 second intervals temperature and wind direction.  The app updates every 5 to 15 minutes.

    Affordability

This is where the 01036 weather station shines!  This model is very affordable and offers a great value to those who decide to purchase it.  Think about it, you get five weather instruments, an indoor and outdoor weather station, internet connectivity, and more.  In my opinion, this is the “best budget weather station.”

    What Are Actual Customers Saying?

Existing users that we surveyed for our AcuRite 01036 review loved the affordability of the unit.  They commented on the simplicity of both the hardware and the connection to the computer.  There were also some comments about the screen not being the latest and greatest.  A common thread was that the weather station does what it’s supposed to do.  It’s not a particularly fancy model, but gets the job done at a great price.

AcuRite 01036 Color Weather Station:  Pros & Cons

    PROS

    Simple and easy to isntall

Connects to a PC and the internet

    Provides email/phone notifications

    Includes handy “Weather Ticker”

    CONS

Short pole is included, but no other mounting solution

The main weather instrument is battery powered and not recharged by the solar panels

    Screen is on the lower-end

    AcuRite 01036 Review:  Summary

At risk of sounding like a broken record in this AcuRite 01036 Review, it’s a very affordable basic household weather station.  I should point out that like other AcuRite weather stations, it comes with a very short moutning pole and a bubble level for installation purposes.  However, to ensure you aren’t disappointed, you should know before purchasing that other models include more “extras”.  If you want to spend less and don’t care about another other weather instruments, wifi connection, etc, then this is a good weather station for your needs.
