As far as wifi temperature monitors go, the SensorPush HT1 is very compact, yet full of features for the user. Because of its size, this would be my go-to option for tight space applications like inside a humidor, guitar case, or your refrigerator. The SensorPush HT1 runs by default on Bluetooth and works great while you’re within the house. If this is all you need, the SensorPush is a great, affordable option for you and tough competition for the Temp Stick. However, if you need to view the data remotely (out of Bluetooth range) while you’re away from home, or wherever the sensor resides, you’ll need to add some additional hardware.
Expandability & Accessibility
The SensorPush wireless thermometer can be paired with the add-on SensorPush G1 Wifi Gateway (sold separately) to remotely monitor the temperature and humidity from anywhere via the internet. Unfortunately, the gateway is not included with the SensorPush HT1, but the good news is that pricing is comparable with the Temp Stick even after it’s added. In fact, since there is no restriction to the number of sensors it can be connected to, the SensorPush option very appealing for multiple sensor applications. Similarly, there is no limit to the number of sensors that any one device can monitor, making it very accessible.

The caveat the manufacture gives is a test they ran in a wood-framed, 2-story, 2600 square foot home, where the sensor could be read in virtually every corner of the house. Overall, the SensorPush accuracy is above average.

Our next pick and review is on AcuRite’s 01166M 3-sensor remote monitoring package. The major strengths of this product are its expandability and versatility. The system comes with three temperature and humidity sensors, but is expandable with up to 10 total sensors or monitors that are sold separately by AcuRite. In addition, the system includes everything needed to remotely monitor each device via an app on your cell phone or tablet or on the web-based PC version. The free My AcuRite app allows for you to chart and/or graph your weather data and keep an eye on trends either hourly or daily. This insight can help you optimize energy efficiency through your heating and cooling system. Since it’s connected to the web via wifi, temperatures can be seen world-wide at the click of a button.
The three included sensors can be wall or table top mounted and can be located in different areas around your home. They provide large icons and numbers so you can understand temperature and humidity levels at a glance. In addition, trend arrows show if levels are rising, falling, or holding steady. The sensors are powered by 2 AAA batteries each. There is a bridge required with this setup, but it is included in the package as mentioned above.
Accuracy & Range
Temperatures are accurate on the indoor sensors within ± 2°F over a range of -4 to 158°F. Humidity is measured through the range of 1-99% and is accurate within 3-5%. AcuRite says the sensor range is up to 330ft, depending on construction materials. Inside homes and in real-world applications, users are reporting distances that are closer to 50-100 feet, depending on number of walls and if the hub is on another story of the house.
Alerts are sent to you via email or text message when levels reach preset conditions. This ensures you know immediately when something requires your attention or an action is needed.
As mentioned above, this system is expandable up to 10 total sensors/monitors. Sensor possibilities range from indoor or outdoor temperature and humidity sensors, water leak sensors, liquid and soil temperature sensors, rain gauges, and other weather-related sensors. The Smart Hub bridge can even be purchased with a remote monitoring weather station that gives you even more data than just indoor temperature and humidity, if that’s what you’re interested in. This package really could be just the start of a complete remote monitoring system that takes care of all your needs.
More users than not praised the 01166M as a good remote temperature monitoring system with lots of uses and even more potential. However, there are several that have provided valid complaints. First, a few have made note that this product is best suited for the US and Canada based on some of the functionality in the App. Additionally, we’ve noticed many customer issues with setup and/or complaints around longevity.
AcuRite 01166M Review Summary
The long and short of it is that this product has a lot of value for the user with three sensors and a great price. It’s also expandable to the point where other products on this list with 10 sensors would cost upwards of 10x as much as this one with that number of sensors. On top of that, this is one of the few products where you can actually see the readings on the sensors themselves if you’re in the room. With many other products, you need to go to the app to see the temperature of the room you’re standing in. However, product reviews are mixed, meaning there is some concern with the product’s performance. Our suggestion is to give this product a shot if it fits your needs, but make sure to buy from a reputable retailer in the unlikely event you have issues with the product and require an exchange.

La Crosse Alerts Mobile Review:
The next review on our list is the Alerts Mobile wireless monitor by La Crosse. This is a nice, compact product that measures both temperature and humidity remotely and uploads the data to the cloud via the included gateway. The gateway includes an AC adapter and plugs into the wall, while the sensor requires 2x AAA batteries that are not included. In addition, this weather-resistant gadget also comes with a dry probe (6ft) to monitor temps in hard to reach areas such as a freezer.
Setup for the LaCrosse Alerts Mobile takes place in three easy steps:
1) Connect gateway to your router (gateway & LAN cable included)
2) Add batteries to the temperature & humidity sensor and start sending data to the gateway
3) Login online or download the La Crosse Alerts mobile app & follow instructions to register
The beauty of this product is its price-point. It’s extremely affordable for allowing the user to do remote temperature monitoring via internet connection…but wait, there’s a catch. There’s always a catch! The text and email alerts are only free for the first three months. After that, you will need a subscription. At the time of this writing, an annual plan is around $12/yr. The info is in the manual you’ll receive with the product. I should make sure I clarify this; you can still see the readings remotely no matter what. However, you will need the subscription for the alerts.
Alerts that are provided are pretty comprehensive. They include presetting limits on both temperature and humidity, sending alerts when those levels are exceeded. In addition, alerts are sent when batteries are low or when the connection fails. According to the manual, the sensor uses 2 AAA batteries and battery life is estimated at 2yrs.
Accuracy & Range
The accuracy of the LaCrosse Alerts Mobile sensors do not appear to be published, although we did find the temperature range of – 4 to 140°F and humidity range of 3 -99%. La Crosse states that the wireless range of the sensor is up to 200 feet if installed in an open air area, with no obstruction. This is not common, and you should assume you probably will not get this kind of range if you are passing through walls, etc. Although the connection from the sensor to the gateway is wireless, the gateway must be placed next to your router and will be connected via the included LAN cable.
A big plus for the Mobile Alerts remote temperature monitoring system is that you can add additional sensors to the same gateway at a relatively low cost. They even offer compatible water leak sensors. The total amount of sensors that can be used per gateway is five.
There are more users that are happy with this remote home temperature monitor than there are users that aren’t. However, that being said, some existing customers have complained about trouble during installation and then hard to reach customer support reps through the manufacturer. In this situation, I encourage you to read through some of the reviews on amazon for yourself before buying.
La Crosse Alerts Mobile Review Summary
You simply can’t beat the price of this wireless remote temperature and humidity sensor. If your application needs don’t require high confidence in reliability, and cost is the driving factor in your decision making process for this need, the La Crosse Mobile Alerts temperature monitoring system will give you great value. iHome iSS50 SmartMonitor Review – “Best Remote Temperature Monitor for Smart Homes”
iHome iSS50 Review:
The iHome iSS50 is an affordable smart home device that monitors 5 things at once: temperature, humidity, motion, light, and sound. It also provides real time push notifications to your smart phone to monitor your home remotely. The best part is that there is no hub, gateway, or subscriptions required to gain the benefits of this smartmonitor. Since it’s wifi-enabled, you can monitor the environment of your home from anywhere around the globe via an internet connection.
The smart monitor is compatible with Apple HomeKit technology and scenarios can be programmed to control automated triggers within your smart home. For this, you will need some extra hardware. For example, you can do IFTTT programming to tell something else to turn on if something the iSS50 monitors happens. This example would most likely require an iHome smartplug or smartplug with remote.
The biggest drawback of the iSS50 from iHome is that it must be plugged into the wall and has no battery capability. Along with its relatively large size, this really restricts where the sensor can be placed.
The iSS50 has a large, backlit LCD screen that displays status indicators as well as the current temperature and humidity. Luckily it can be dimmed from the back of the unit. The real hoopla of the iHome Smartmonitor is the amount of sensors it contains. You won’t find the breadth of sensors this model has on it anywhere else on this list. This, packaged with the smart home capabilities, make it a potentially powerful device.
I was not able to find any temperature or humidity accuracy or range specifications on the iHome iSS50 5-in-1 smartmonitor. The range of the sensor itself is limited to be near a wall outlet, but can be placed anywhere within your home wifi network area.
The iSS50 is good at providing real time data when you need it, however there is no real way to log or record data over time. This product doesn’t have the graphs and charts you’ll find on the best remote temperature sensor, or monitors.
Feedback from existing users is mixed to say the least. There are plenty of good reviews commenting about the affordability of the product and the number of sensors that you get. Unfortunately, despite the confusing advertising, most can only get automated triggers from the motion sensor in HomeKit (although it appears there is more functionality when using the iHome app itself).
iHome iSS50 Review Summary
This product is another inexpensive way to remotely monitor the environment in your home. It doesn’t appear that it is the most accurate, compact, or feature-rich product, but for the price tag, you can’t expect that. If home automation is your goal, this might fit your needs. If not, I’d grab something else from the list first. The idea is brilliant, however the execution leaves something to be desired. It just doesn’t appear to be ready yet.

Other Remote Temperature Monitor Options
There were other remote temperature monitor models that were evaluated and considered for this list, but ultimately deemed not a good fit for various reasons. Here are a few that were left off the list and general reasons why.
The Engbrid IBS-TH1 data logger is a cool device. Really, it’s similar to the idea of the SenorPush if there was no gateway option. The IBS-TH1 is a Bluetooth only device and is marketed towards the homebrew industry. There are a few features lacking on the Engbird product however. For one, there doesn’t appear to be a gateway option, so Bluetooth is it, meaning now remote monitoring when you’re not within 50-150ft of the product. It does have good accuracy, includes a temperature probe, and can be set to many different sampling intervals, including down to every 10 seconds. In addition, your mobile device can monitor multiple sensors, and each sensor can also be monitors via multiple devices. The CR2477 lithium battery lasts up to 1 year. Don’t let the comments you’ll see in reviews about it not being replaceable scare you. There are videos that can be found on Youtube that will help you replace it in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, without wifi, this temperature sensor just couldn’t climb our list.
Elgato Eve Degree Review:
The Degree has a very sleek design with a modern feel, however it runs exclusively on Bluetooth technology. In order to view data remotely, you’ll need a home-hub and additional smart home technology, which really isn’t want this list is about. It’s a “cool” product, but doesn’t fit what we were looking for here. If you have other Elgato Eve products, it probably makes sense to consider this model and you might find that it’s the best wifi temperature sensor for your home.
Although this remote thermometer and humidty monitor has decent customer reviews and good sensor accuracy, it requires an AC wall outlet at the point of the sensor. This means that it lacks virtually any portability. There is relatively little performance or customer feedback about this model on the internet at the time of this writing to compare, but we feel that the Temp Stick or SensorPush models above with their battery option are better options in most applications. For this reason, these wifi temperature sensors weren’t versatile enough to make the top of the list.
Room Alert 3 Wifi Review:
The Room Alert appears to be marketed towards IT applications such as a server room temperature monitor or similar for wiring closets, or critical rack cabinets. It really does give some great data and graphs for these applications. For the generic purposes of our list, it’s not our favorite option for remote temperature monitoring via the internet. It is powered with a 5v power adapter and didn’t have a ton of good customer feedback yet at the time of our evaluation.
The RCW-800 is a commercial-grade product and is suitable for pharmaceutical or food cold chain storage as a humidity and temperature logger, uploading data to the cloud. Just like the Room Alert above, this product is specialized and does not necessarily fit the generic applications that is the spirit of this best remote temperature monitor list. That’s not to say it’s not a good fit for the use case it’s called out for. In fact, if you are trying to remotely monitor temperature and humidity over wifi for cold food storage or a pharma application, it’s probably a good option.
MarCELL 500 Review:
The MarCELL 500 is a celluar-connected remote environmental monitor. In fact, in our opinion, it’s the best remote temperature monitor that uses a cellular connection. There are some major PROs and CONs to this product. Probably the most controversial feature is the fact that its connection is cellular. For some, this is a big benefit. If you don’t have access to wifi or another local internet connection, this might be your only option for viewing environmental data remotely. At the same time, the cellular connection means that it requires a subscription plan.
Other PROs for the MarCELL 500 are that it uses and AC adapter, but contains a battery backup so it should always be on and not require frequent battery changes. It’s also expandable and can use MarCELL water SPucks for leak detection (up to 16 per controller). Lastly, it does offer numerous readings and immediate alerts via text, email, or a phone call. On the CON side, it’s not portable since it must be plugged in and is relatively large in size.
