SUMMARY
If you’re specifically looking for an AcuRite weather station, or one that allows for monitoring additional devices, look no further, the 01012M should be for you first choice!
Welcome to our AcuRite 01012M review! This is a top-notch weather station from one of the leading manufactures in the space. It uses Acurite’s higher-end weather sensor, the 5-in-1 PRO+ model. Additionally, the 01012M uses the AcuRite Access module that allows the user to remotely monitor up to 7 compatible AcuRite sensors on your phone or tablet using the My AcuRite app.
Connectivity
Like most of AcuRite’s weather stations, the 01012M is wireless and can transmit up to 330ft from the weather sensor to the display unit.
The included Access module allows you to upload your weather data to the world wide web via the My AcuRite app. It also allows you to share you data with Weather Underground. You do this by connecting an Ethernet cable from your internet router directly to the Access module. You can connect up to 7 compatible AcuRite sensors to included module, meaning this weather station is expandable for possible future needs you might have. The module uses backup batteries and an internal memory so it can store up to 12 hours of data in the event of a power outage.
To see the compatible AcuRite sensors, click this link to the 01012M product page on Amazon and check the list in the description.
Display Console
Here’s an image of the LCD screen that comes with the 01012M weather station. It’s bright and colorful, and can be either wall mounted or set on a tabletop. Additional features on this display include dew point, wind chill, and heat index, as well as AcuRite’s Weather Ticker™ streaming real-time alerts from your weather station. It’s one of the nicer displays being offered on weather stations at the price point of the 01012M.
Weather Instruments
AcuRite home weather stations typically come with one of the following weather instruments: 3-in-1, 5-in-1, or PRO+ 5-in-1 sensor. Already mentioned above, it this model uses the PRO+ version and includes the dual solar panel design.
- Indoor/Outdoor thermometer for temperature
- Indoor/Outdoor hygrometer for humidity
- Barometer for indoor barometric pressure
- Wind vane and anemometer for wind speed and direction
- Self-emptying rain collector to measure rainfall
The solar panels power an internal aspirating fan to draw in ambient air for a more accurate measurement.
Power Source for Weather Instruments
The AcuRite 01012M sensor array is battery-powered like others in the PRO+ family. Yes, it has solar panels, but they are for the aspirating fan, not sensor power. When using an AcuRite weather station, we always recommend their remote battery pack when it will be located in a not-so-easy location for battery changes. This product allow for a remote battery change, up to 30 feet away. Here’s our review on that product if you’re interested.
Accuracy
This personal weather station has an accuracy that is below average, yet still close enough to be adequate:- Temperature: ± 2° F
- Humidity: ± 3-5%
- Rain: ± 0.05” per inch
- Wind Direction Indicators: 16 points
- Wind Speed: 2-5 mph
Update Frequency
The AcuRite 01012M reports wind speed at 18-second intervals and temperature and wind direction at 36-second intervals. Updates aren’t seen on the app for about 5-15 minutes in most cases.
Affordability
Throughout our AcuRite 01012M review you have seen all the extra features it provides. The great news is that it’s reasonably priced. AcuRite has great prices on a wide variety of weather stations, but the 01012M is at the top of our list. You get a nice wireless weather station and a beautiful display, but also remote monitoring on the My AcuRite app as well as the ability to monitor several other devices at the same time through the Access Module. In addition, this weather station also comes with a basic mounting pole and a bubble level, making it easy to install.
